Wk #46: Should you compare your progress with others?

Dear Aspirant,

How was your previous week's prep?

Any guesses on how many weeks are left for this year to end? (Don't check the calendar :P)

As time flows by each of us has our ups and downs in our preparation. But one thing tends to be common to all. (I guess!)

Comparing our progress.

Should we or should we not? Here is a small visual that I have made based on the suggestion of a friend.

There might be aspirants who have started much before you. If you compare your scores with them you will get demotivated. It is fine to take inspiration from them.

But you need to tell yourself that, with practice, your scores will also improve. One person you can definitely compare yourself to is yourself.

  • Has my accuracy improved in the past six months?

  • Have I made less number of silly mistakes?

  • Have I been able to interlink concepts across subjects?

The parameters you use to assess your progress might differ across candidates. But the point of reference can be you in every case.

I had written this article 10 months back. Sometimes I go back and read what I had written. I found this to be quite relevant. A good reminder for myself.
