Four steps to becoming more consistent in writing answers - Part I
In the book Atomic Habits, James Clear breaks down the science of how Habits Work. All habits proceed through the below four stages in the same order: Cue -> Craving -> Response -> Reward
In response to each of these stages, he gives suggestions that can be applied to the practice of writing answers.
Step #1: Make it Obvious (Cue)
Observe: Note your daily activities according to the time. Preferably select a time when you are high on energy for writing answers.
Specify your intention: Write down in your book or on an A-4 Sheet, "I will 'practice answer writing' @ 10:00 AM in my Study Room.
Link it to another habit: The practice of writing must be linked to something more obvious that you are currently doing. Eg: "After I finish my breakfast, I will practice answer writing.
Design your environment: Keep your answer writing book, pen and the questions to be practised ready on your table. Keep your distractions like your phone or novels in another room.
Step #2: Make it Attractive (Craving)
Temptation bundling: If you like to check social media daily, tell yourself, "After I write one answer, I will check social media." This way you are bundling a habit you need with a habit you want.
Peer Group: Join a peer group where writing answers daily is the normal thing to do. If you have heard of Cult fit training, they have cohorts or groups of 30-40 members. It is normal to come to the gym daily for practice. It also incorporates the concept of an Accountability partner
(The next two steps will be shared tomorrow...)
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Your goal is your desired outcome. Your system is the collection of daily habits that will get you there." - James Clear
